What it's all about

The Challenge: Stay away from the craft stores for ONE WHOLE YEAR! This, my friends, is a challenge for me. My craft room is ridiculously overflowing. I LOVE thinking/finding new fun crafts to create and then going to the store to collect the supplies. Unfortunately, many of these projects never get finished; some never even get started. So here I am, challenging myself to not buy any craft supplies and yet still create crafts everyday!
The Exceptions: Inevitably I will need to purchase things like adhesives, glue, and thread. Well maybe not thread... Also gifts are allowed. If a family or friend feels so inclinded to send me a gift of crafts supplies who am I to refuse? I may not finish a project a day, but I will at least try. I have two small children who take up most of my time. I also enjoy other crafts like quilting. Therefore, sometimes the projects just won't get done in a day. But, I promise to try my best!

Day 41: ON VACATION

Don't worry, I won't be going in any craft stores today! But I also don't think I'll be making a craft. I am more interested in relaxing at the pool!

Day 40: Crocheted Mustache

My husband is currently sporting a mustache. No, it's not March! The guys decided to akk griw them anyways, but now my husband is the last holdout to shave it. Well it's getting old, I want to see his lips again. Time for it to go! So I found a pattern to crochet a mustache! (I'll link the website when I get home from my trip) I took pics of us with them as a joke to help convince him to shave. Don't worry, no children were woken in the taking if these photos! ;)

Day 39: Painted Glasses

We used acrylique paints to paint a glass. A few months ago when I bought the supplies for the project we couldn't find glass paint or sealer. Now I see adds for a new line of glass paint at Michaels. Figures! So I thought I'll just see how well it works. I'm worrued the paint is just going to rub off, especially onced washed. Hum...

Day 38: Wood Box

My neice bought a little box for my daughter to put her squinkies in. We painted it her favorite colors, decoupaged some princess pictures from a magazine and then doodled with sharpies. This is just a cute little project for the day while I also work on a quilt. I'm hoping to get the quilt done before I leave town. Hum... Cross your fingers!

Day 37: Tablet case with shoulder strap

I'm pretty happy with this one! My niece has her first day of college tomorrow and she wanted a case for her tablet.  I would like to point out I had no pattern! She just told me what she wanted.  The fabric was also not prequilted, I did that for her as well. I think it is very Vera Bradley looking!

Day 36: ipod case

This is just a quick little case for my neice's ipod. It will match the case fir her tablet, whenever I get that done!  Hope it fits! Hum...that seems to be something I say a lot! This time I didn't get measurements before she left. I think it will work, if not I can let out one of the side seems.

Day 35: Felt Peanut Butter and Jelly

Well, I didn't have a pattern and was in a little bit of a hurry, but I still think it turned out pretty cute. It is a pb&j sandwich out of felt for my daughter.

Day 34: Felt Envelopes

Boy do I love Pinterest! It is so easy to quickly find ideas for craft projects. I think one of my future projects will be a playhouse you throw over a card table. So these letters will be a great accessory for that. In the meantime my daughter will have fun mailing letters to Daddy!

Day 33: Elephant Pin Cusion

Today I really didn't feel like crafting and waited until late to get this one done. But he's pretty cute!

Day 32: Melted Crayons

I've been wanting to do this one for awhile as well. For this one we ransacked my parent's stash of old crayons. When I get home I will do this to my daughter's broken crayons. It is super easy. We just put them in 300 degree oven for 10 minutes.

Day 31: Gourd Art

I have always wanted to paint and decorate a gourd. So today we went over to my brother's backyard and raided his gourd supply he had drying out. I looked up how to clean them and it was suggested to soak them in soap, water and bleach for an hour then scrub. What a pain! We ended up also using a fine grade sandpaper to help scrub off the mold and sand down some of the bumps.
Below is a picture of the skeleton and russian doll gourds I painted, plus the gourd my four year old painted!

Day 30: Felt Bandaids

I drove about 11 hrs today so I wanted a quick project. We saw these on pinterest, so cute! If I had some velcro with me I would have added some. That way they could stick to stuffed animals.

Day 29: Crocheted donut

My daughter loves play food and I am traveling again, therefore crocheting! I think with more time and embellishments I can make this cuter.

Day 28: Dr. Suess Baby Shower

Finally seeing all of the crafts together!

Day 27: Cake Pops

Cake pops and I have a love/hate relationship. I love to eat them, but I hate to make them. Everyone says how easy they are but I find them annoying. They never look as good as I think they are going to when I envision them in my head. What am I doing wrong? Maybe I need to watch someone make them. Here are the few I completed before giving up. Notice the ones in the back that are dripping. :(

Day 26: Cupcake toppers

I'm not really sure my train of thought here.  The cupcakes are mini, yet these toppers are not. Hummm... But I think they are cute!

Below is a paper flower I tried making.  I'm not sure how much I like it, maybe if I tried patterned paper?

Day 25: More Decorations

Pinwheels? Fans?  Whatever you would like to call them!  I got a freebie flyer at Hobby Lobby a while back that calls them Pinwheels and briefly tells you how to make them.  When I google Pinwheels I get a those cute pinwheels you blow on to make spin.  Which is too bad because the instructions on the flyer were limited!  I want to make bigger ones but am not sure the way to do it... Humm...  These are more party decorations for the baby shower.  It may seem like a lot of decorations but I really just space things out over the week, slowly getting things done a day at a time instead of having to stressout and do them all on the same day!  If I didn't have two small kiddos to play with them it would be a breeze.  I'm not sure where I am going to use these yet in my decorating but I had really wanted to try them out.  In this picture you can also see the clothes pins I painted last night.  Super cute!

Day 24: Tulle Pom Poms

Thank you Martha Stewart!  On her website you can see how to make these pom poms out of tulle.  They really are super easy. These are more party decorations for a baby shower.

And here's a sneak peak at a bigger project I am working on!  Hummm... I wonder what it is?

Day 23: Laptop Case

My nephew asked me to make him a laptop case.  Let's see, I think I had this project on my to-do list since the end of May.  That's actually not too bad for me!

Hope it fits!

Day 22: Tissue Paper Flowers

My plan was to get a laptop case finished today, but I don't think it's going to happen. My little one us teething and not happy about it! So tissue paper flowers it is.
This weekend I am hosting a baby shower and these are the perfect decorations. They are cheap, easy, quick, and make the table display so cute.

Day 21: Making a Patch

The completed project will be a laptop case for my nephew, but he wanted to have his favorite teams represented.  Today I worked on the patches that I will add to the outside of the case.  We got a package of printable fabric and printed them out on the sheets.

Next I needed to make them look like patches.  I sewed each image onto a piece of stabilizer.

Then, to make them look like real patches I stiched a satin stitch around the outside of the image.

Below is the finished patch.  It's not perfect by any means, but it's so much better than if we had tried to run around and actually find all of these patches.  Cheaper too!

Day 20: Felt food, sugar and flour

My daughter says she wants to be a cooker when she gets older. She loves pretending to cook and bake. I have a ton of felt with the idea of making her lots of play food. Today I made flour and sugar bags she can use when baking me cupcakes. :)

Day 19: Fleece Baby Blanket

Today I embroidered and sewed a quick fleece baby blanket for a friend. Internet is still down. I sure am glad I have the mobile blogger app on my phone!

Day 18: Dr. Suess diaper cake

I'll probably add more to this later, but for today this is it. It's one of those days when your kids take turns being upset so it's tough to get even small projects done!

Day 17: Quiet Doors!

My computer is still giving me trouble, so photos are vua mobile. Today's project was an idea from pinterest my friend sent me. I think these are even sold on etsy. I figured they would be easy to make and was surprised that they actually worked! Sorry for the photo quality! But it will be great to have on my kids' doors. Even for the older one; she loves to open and close her door during my little one's nap time. This will help keep things a little quieter!

Day 16: Painted Onsies

I am having computer trouble today, so I am blogging via mobile. When I get the computer back up and running i'll link the website where I got this fun idea from!

Finally got my computer back up and running!  I wanted to add these new photos and the website where I saw this CUTE idea!  It worked great, I was surprised but thought the dragon turned out the best.
 Great Instructions on Painting Onsies!
